adorsys: Future-proofing Digital Banking of Tomorrow
Andrew J Zeller, CEO and Thilo Rottach, CTO
The last frontier of banking is nearing.
The banking system has undergone digitalization by leaps and bounds. With deep worldwide internet penetration, a major portion of banking has gone digital, from automated processes to transactions. Yet, the only thing preventing banking to go completely digital is the prevalence of fiat currency, which, in stark contrast to the digitalised banking system, continues to stay physical. That is all set to change.
With gamechangers like digital currency and cryptocurrency set to revolutionize banking like never before, there is an increasing need to transform the way they are stored and valued in the banking system. Its effect on supply chains across the globe cannot be ignored, as for the first time in history, a financial supply chain will be behind the overall supply chain, with the possibility of blockchain coming into the picture. The question that crops up is – are banks equipped to handle this change?
Standing at the cusp of ushering in fully digitalised banking is adorsys. The Nuremberg, Germany-based IT company offers banks, third party providers (TPPs) and other financial institutions open source technical solutions to help them transition to the state-of-the-art modern financial systems of today and tomorrow through powerful API integrations. “We are API integrators with a focus on the last frontier of banking, integrating digital wallets, crypto wallets and API consoles for large banks, and connecting with retail and investment banking,” says Andrew J Zeller, CEO, adorsys.

Taking on the challenges faced by banks and TPPs to update their legacy systems with tailor-made IT solutions, adorsys modernizes these existing systems by adding translation layers and other layers to first encapsulate them, and then adding custom-built API layers. This facilitates seamless integration with the latest state-of-the-art PSD2-compliant banking system that is geared toward adopting cryptocurrency and other digital currencies. “We’re restructuring entire systems’ landscapes, enabling players in the financial services to use modern technological architecture to operate their business,” Zeller explains.
To illustrate the extent of their solutions, Zeller mentions a major German retail bank, whose legacy systems were updated by adorsys through new APIs. Faced with thousands of cumbersome, expensive-to-maintain outdated systems, along with a lack of people to handle the old systems, the bank sought the services of adorsys. “We entirely modernized their entire system architecture to a complete microservices structure by building new APIs,” explains Zeller. Based on these APIs, the bank built a new business model for several of its products mostly centered on loans, which continues to help them acquire lots of new clients. Besides, adorsys is also working with the bank to assist them in monetizing their exposed value chain parts as profitable APIs.
With visionary leaders on board who are equipped with the expertise and know-how of future application of technologies, adorsys is focused on providing more such technology-enabled financial services to enable the full digital transformation of banking, and the entire financial system in general. The cherry on top is the flexible company culture sans big hierarchies that makes adorsys an empowered organization where employees are at the helm of decision-making on individual projects they are working on. This combination of visionary leadership and flexible company culture helps adorsys attract the best talents in the industry, which acts as a differentiator in the marketplace of fintech solution providers.
Going ahead, adorsys will be looking forward to expanding across Europe, currently focusing on Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, with immediate plans to invest in Ireland and Latvia. To enable seamless working from these international locations, adorsys will be implementing flexible work-fromanywhere option, keeping up with an increasingly mobile workforce. With eyes on transforming the last frontiers of banking, adorsys will continue to offer its solutions and expertise to pave the way for scalability and automation in the banking and finance sectors.
